TEN affiliates JOSHUA and ESTHER hand-delivered 1000 petitions to the offices of their representatives in Wisconsin. The petitions asked the representatives to work to prevent transit funding cuts in the greater Fox Valley and Green Bay areas.
Over the past few months JOSHUA and ESTHER have collected 1000 petitions, which were delivered to the staff of Rep. Petri and Rep. Ribble on Tuesday November 29th. The petitions highlight the commitment made by each of the congressmen to solve a critical issue facing the transit systems in the greater Fox Valley and Green Bay regions.
At a public meeting organized by JOSHUA and ESTHER, the congressmen made a commitment to make transit a top priority in their offices and to work with fellow members of congress to pass legislation that would allow for flexibility in operational funding to maintain funds for the Green Bay Metro and Valley Transit systems.
We must see a change in the federal formula that would allow our transit systems to maintain their flexibility in operating assistance. Without such changes, each system could lose $500,000 annually, resulting in a cut of more than half of the fixed routes and other transit services. Leaders from JOSHUA and ESTHER are working with Representatives Petri and Ribble to find solutions that can help us move forward before services affect more than 25 municipalities in Northeastern Wisconsin.
